I haven't been consistent with exercise lately so I feel huge. Amazing how you can "feel fat" not just be fat. Sometimes, the feeling can affect how you view your image, even when there's no weight difference.

I guess I am just so down on working so hard for weight loss and seeing poor results. I haven't found a program that works for me and one I want to stick to consistently. It's depressing to look back here at my posts from May. I was 221. Now I am 241. That's after working out for 6 days a week for 6 mos. I have been waiting for a workout DVD set from my fave fitness guru since July. I found out yesterday that it shipped last night. Wahoo!!

I really want to get this right though. I want to hit it right. With the right attitude, the right approach and something I can stick to. In order to do this I MUST do my mental work. I must address the reasons why something that tastes good is more important that being healthy for may family, my boys. I need to really see where I want to be and I need to finish that vision board that I have been prepping for for a few months.

So, I probably have until next week this time to look at all of this I have been putting off for months.

Here's to the next week!

B

Wow, how did December happen?!?

Time flies.

I had every ambition to be under 200 lbs for my 40th birthday in January. Didn't happen. Well, I could have a leg removed and lose 75 lbs, but I like being able to get around, so there's that! So I had a goal. But I couldn't stay focused on it because I wasn't successful in my exercise & eating routines. I could not get the strength training plus minimal interval cardio to work for me. I actually gain weight on that kind of exercise. I lost fat, but who wants to gain when you are already over 230 lbs. Yeah. No.

So, I know I am going to turn 40 within just 20 lbs of my highest weight ever. Not where I wanted to be, but I don't have enough time to fix it. So picking myself and moving on.

What's next? Some serious vision work is in order. I really didn't apply what I know about motivational theory to my last drive for weight loss. This needs to change.

I need to take the steps to creating a vision and my plan is complete a vision board by mid February.

Would you like to join me?

Betsey

Where or where have I been?

I finished the CTF challenge. So, I did the cardio today that I was supposed to do yesterday: R24 to the video. Wow, I really didn't write good notes on this one. I see, after having done it to the video that my notes of even my favorite section, kicks, was wrong. Ah, well. I can correct it next week. I really think this round rocks and I am not sure why NONE of it appeared on BOV4?!?

So, I am not sure how I will get my workout on this week. We had a death in the family this week and I will be supporting my mom as she burries her mother. The next few days will be very tough to stay on program. I will absolutey do everything I can to eat my six meals, eat appropriate carbs and drink a ton of water.

Betsey

CTF Challenge 6w6d

Wow, a whole week, no post.

Here's my weigh/measure result for his week.

weight: 225.8 (+.2)
bodyfat% 28.8 (same, but caliper pinch was -1mm to 18mm)
waist: 39.2 (-.25)
chest: 48 (no change)
neck: 13.5 (-.5)
arms: 25 (no change)
calves: 32 (-1.25)
thighs: 44 (-.75)

I had some serious water issues this week. My unofficial weigh in on Friday was actually 229.6, and because it was hot, I decided to really push the fluids yesterday and that seemed to help with the water retention, as I dropped 4 lbs in a day. Now if I could just lose some scale weight. I was so hoping to be down to 212 by the end of the challenge, which now is only five weeks away!

On a phone call with Jeff Anderson, the creator of Combat the Fat, I found out that we could switch up the exercise a bit to encourage fat loss without muscle gain. I am all for that!! My body is currently 161 lbs of lean mass, up from 148 before the challenge. I don't think I need to gain more muscle at this point. I would like to see the scale go down without losing the muscle gain.

The suggestion was to change the strength pyramids to circuits, so that it's a switch off between circuits and cardio six days a week. Works for me! I will give it a try! As for diet, Jeff also suggested having a cheat day instead of a cheat meal to fool the metabolism. I think I will try the circuit switch next week and see what that does for me for a week or two.

Or maybe do circuits on day 1 & 5, do full body pyramids on day 3, with a rep count starting at 1-1-2-2-3-3. Hmmm, I still think I will try one week without pyramids to see how that goes. I do not want to lose muscle weight though. I am 3mm away from my goal and I don't want to backslide that.

B

CTF Challenge 5w6d

Today is cardio only day and I want to do HHH in the AM and maybe TK in the early evening.

Today is also measure day.

weight: 225.6 (-1.6)
bf: 28.8% (-1.4)
neck: 14.2 (no change
chest: 48.2 (-.5)
waist: 39.2 (+.2)
arms: 25 (no change)
thighs: 44.7 (+.5)
calves: 33.2 (+.2)

Betsey

CTF Challenge 5w4d

Today was cardio only. R27 was sweaty fun. It is definitely one of my favorite rounds. I guess R33 is coming out soon. I hope it's fun!!

I weighed in at 225.6 today & measured 19mm on the calipers. That means I have lost 8 lbs on the scale, 21 lbs of body fat & gained 14 lbs of muscle. Very cool.

Today was my cheat meal since I forgot yesterday. Chris & I went out to Buckhorn Grill. Yummy. I ate well yesterday. I did my colon therapy. I exercised. I drank my water. I gained a lb. What's up with that? I am in a serious plateau on the scale. It's really starting to bug me to work this hard and not see results. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Even my bodybugg is crapping out on me these days. I put in a battery & it dies within a few days. It used to last at least a week in there! Now, I have all these time periods without data. It really sucks not to know what I am really burning.

This is what I have/will eat today:

6:30 8 oz milk, apex mocha protein cookie
9:45 orange, cytosport protein shake (180 cals) with 1 tbsp psilium
12:50 2 cups mixture of spinach, mushroom, tomato chunks & ground turkey on whole wheat bread (sloppy joe) post exercise english toffee,no chocolate treat
3:30 orange, cytosport protein drink with 1tbsp psilium
7:00 4 oz salmon, 2 cups brocoli
9:00 Peanut Butter protein cookie (homemade) and 4 oz milk

It was a cardio day. R27 of TK. This will be my last week of R26 & R27. Can't say I will miss 26 much. I will miss 27, though. I love it! I have three faves now: 25, 27 & 32. Next week, I will do 24 & 28 as I have not really done them since I got them. That should be interesting! I did 50 minutes of cardio today.

Tomorrow is cirucuits with Hip Hop Hustle 2 mixed in. I need to remember to bring the DVD in since I don't know those by heart, nor do I have the coreo notes.

B

CTF Challenge 5w1d

Today was strength pyramids. I've stepped up to the next level on Beginner, now on 3. It was much harder than two. I might not be ready. Instead of an added exercise, it is an added step on the ladder. The "easy" exercise is done 15 times in the peak set. Wowza! It was tough. Supposed to do 15 mins of cardio, I knocked out 40. Wahoo.

Eating was great today. I had my usual breakfast (protein cookie & milk), am snack was protein shake and kiwi fruit, lunch was a rasberry chicken chipotle salad a Quiznos, PM snack also was my after workout meal (candy, protein shake & apple), dinner was turkey tomato mushroom mix up (which will be served on bread for lunch tomorrow) and desert was two homemade protein peanut butter cookies (Thanks for the recipe Sarah, if you are reading this!), 4 oz of milk and an apple. A workgroup sponsored lunch for my department. I went to the lunch, but did not eat the sandwich or even the cookies or brownies. Very proud of myself for passing up free social food...two big triggers for me. It was fun. I mixed it up with HHH2. Neve had done it before. It's well over an hour on the instruction video. Very fun, but tiring. I've got the kids by myself today and I have a big assignment due tomorrow. My MIL is taking the kids this afternoon to give me a chance to get it done. Tomorrow will be a big busy day with DH taking off to some photography and me taking the kids by myself to a kid's faire in San Francisco and a BBQ at a friend's house in South City. Fun and busy but not much of an opportunity to get schoolwork done.

So my measurements for this week are as follows.

weight: 227.2 (+.6)
body fat %: 30.2 (no change)
waist: 39 (-.8)
neck: 14.5 (no change)
chest: 47.75 (-.75)
arms: 25 (+.25)
thighs: 44.25 (+.25)
calves: 33 (-.25)

So, I broke my up and down pattern (weight down, BF% stable; next week weight up a hair and BF% down a lot). This week, my weight was up a hair and my BF% stayed stable. I think looking at the whys will help me jump over the hurdles next time.

Looking back at this week for the reasons why and where I didn't do what I was supposed to: I had two days away from the office. I didn't wing my regular meals, but on those days I did skip my snacks and did not have access to low sugar protein powder. I didn't have as much veggies either. No access to my psillium those days either.

I was horrible this week with water and psillium. I think I drank less than half a gallon of water this week and I didn't have my potassium bicarbonate for the last three days.

So, if I am looking for things to correct from here on out, I would include: make sure to have access to protein powder at home & work, drink my water with the added potassium bicarbonate and take my psilium everyday. I think I will try to concentrate on that.

B

CTF Challenge 4w5d

Today was Day 5 strength day. I did R26 from warm up through finale from 11:30 AM through 12:15 PM. It's gotten easier this week to do R26 & R27, so I think I will stick with those two through the end of next week. I did R26 of TK and it went much more smoothly than last week. It seems that I have to do a full run through of each 8 count in the 32 for each section just before I begin. I wonder if I could teach it without my cheat sheet notes on written on the dry erase board in the conference room. Probably not!!

Staying on program on eating today. Tummy feels worlds better than yesterday. Hopefully that trend will continue!!

I don't know why, but I just feel like I am making no progress this week. Each morning weigh in brings me no closer to the weight I was two weeks ago at weigh in. Very worrisome. Yesterday was 228 and the day before that was 226. What happened to 225?? Grrr...last weeks weigh in was 226 after the 225. Man the scale is so SLOW!! I've got so much to lose too! You'd think it'd be more. I was shooting for a scale loss of 1.5-2 lbs a week during the challenge and so far, after a month, I've lost a whopping 7 lbs on the scale. My bf measurements have been going way down, bu it makes me wonder, doesn't the caliper measure your sub-q fat and not include the visceral fat that lays below the muscle??

CTF Challenge 4w1d

Had to rush and do my workout today. I was able to do strength plus 35 minutes of drenching cardio.

Haven't been feeling well in the tummy department all day. I've had nausea & the "d" word all day. Yuck. I don't know if it's a bug or something I ate. No one else seems to have it but me.

The offsite meeting provided what used to be a challenge for me: free food. No free food fest for me today. I even did not eat the entree provided by the company for our meal...just salad and my own lunch (spinach & salmon) and a few dinner rolls for my carb. First time on Beginner 2. I added cable rows with the bodylastics. I can feel it in my triceps and back. I used the 19 lb cable, whatever that means. I did R26 through punches & kicks on both sides. The strength work took about 13 minutes and I did about 50 minutes of R26 for cardio (planned is 15 minutes, but I figure I should just go until I get tired).

I measured today. Here are the results (I changed the measures on the arms, thighs & calves for both legs):

weight: 226.6 (+1.4)
body fat% 30.2 (-2.5)
neck: 14.25 (-.25)
chest: 48.5 (+.25)
waist: 40.25 (-.25)
arms: 24.7 (+.25)
thighs: 44 (-3)
calves: 33.2 (-.75)

With the jump in body fat down from 32.7 to 30.2, my fat loss jumped from 11.4 lbs last week to 16.6 lbs this week. My weight jumped up a bit, but according to my fat measurement, my lean mass jumped up from 6.6 lbs this week. Looking at my scale weight graph, I usually post a big loss, a small gain the next week and a bg loss the following week.

Betsey

CTF 3w4d

I had a great cheat day yesterday. Planned my cheat meal for a potluck. I usually can't help myself at potlucks. It was nice to be able to eat whatever and not feel guilty!! Yesterday was circuit day. I used Hip Hop Hustle as my cardio section of the circuit. HHH1, both hustles and part of "the show".

Have been sick most of this week. Headcold turning into chest cold. Should be getting better soon. No DL for me, though. Since I've not had a fever, I've stuck to my exercise everyday.

I decided after Monday's strength training that I needed to up it to the next level and plan on doing Beginner Level 2 through the end of the month. Will move to Beginner Level 3 starting in May. My assisted pull-ups, chin-ups & push-ups are getting easier, so I think it's time to step it up.

Hoping today brings some fun R27 TK for cardio session.

Betsey

CTF Challenge 2w6d

Ok, no cardio yet, but the boys aren't being agreeable on naps today.

But I did weigh in:

weight: 225.2 (5.2 lbs less than last week!)
fat % 32.7 (25mm)
neck 14.5 (no change last week)
Chest: 48.5 (-.25)
waist: 40.5 (-.25)
arm: 12.5 (no change)
thigh: 23.75 (+.75)
calf: 16.5 (-.25)

According to the database software, I am down 11.4 lbs of body fat, 8 scale lbs and a muscle gain of 3. Should be interesting so see how far I go and where I will be in mid-June, when the challenge is through.

On a happy note, my insulin usage was 23 units of long acting insulin each AM to control fasting number. My fasting numbers started to go down within the first week of being on program. I have dutifully checked my sugars each morning and have been noticing that I need less and less every other day. I am currently down to 10 units a day. Calliper measure was a 22mm pinch, which puts me at 31.2% body fat. A-mazing!! That makes my fat loss 14 lbs and muscle gain 8! Way cool! Tomorrow is my official weigh/measure day, so I will do it all tomorrow.

Today was strength day and I can feel I am getting stronger with the assisted chin-ups and push-ups. I have never been super great with even assisted push-ups, I could get out maybe two or three. I was able to do my eight at the top of the pyramid, no problem. I did about 40 minutes of TK R32 today.

Here I had about a week of off and on BMs and the last two days have been every trip. I tried a tricep dip set instead of tricep pushups. I liked it. I had to split out my circuits. I can't remember what came up, but something. lunch or a meeting or something. Yeah, lunch. Anyway, it was my cheat meal day. I went to Chevy's with a friend and had jumbo shrimp fajitas. Yummy. I even had a flan dessert. Very yummy. Worth the week's wait!!

Did cardio today. R25 through recovery was about 45 minutes of pure sweat.

Trying to get more on plan on food. It's been challenging since there is so much info and I read it a month ago. Was going to try the cayenne pepper/oil/lemon trick. So, although I gained this week, it appears that I've gained muscle. Also, the scale was no helped by my inability to have a BM since Thursday. I know, gross, but important.

Two weeks in result:
Today's weigh in: 230.4
fat % was 30mm or 34.6%
Neck measure 14.5 (no change)
chest measure 48.5 (-.5)
waist measure 40.5 (-.5)
arm measure 12.5 (-.25)
thigh measure 23 (no change)
calf measure 16.25 (no change)

Did Turbo Sport today for the first time. Fun, but very plyo and energetic. This made it more difficult to stay in the fat burning zone. Worked out for 75 minutes and burned 512 calories. So far, as of 5PM, my calorie burn today is 2075. Way cool. Maybe I will take a walk with Ryan and Tucker in the stroller this evening. The weather has been very warm this week, already in the upper 80's. I hope we don't have a killer hot summer this year. I would much rather the temps stay in the upper 70's. The warm weather in the afternoon definitely added to the sweating during the workout!

1w4d CFT challenge

Today I did TK R25 for four sections: punches, kicks, punches & kicks and recovery. I was dreading it a bit for some reason.

I guess I am bummed that the scale is REFUSING to move this week! Last week was amazing...4 lbs lost and this week, it's 0.4. I've been pounding the exercising, doing better on food than last week and barely budging. I hope I can pinch a lower number on the calipers on Saturday.

I was weak today, though. Ryan had a potluck snack in his room today. Parents brought foods in for snack. I did very poorly at keeping myself away from the bad foods. I ate fruits, which was what I intended on doing, but the chocolate, whip cream in cakes beckoned. It was horribly yummy. Darn it, I should have kept to drinking my water this afternoon insteading of filling my body with absolute crap. Oh yeah, a mom brought chicken tenders from KFC. I ate some! Why do I do this crap to myself. Did I think for a second about my motivations as I filled my tummy with crap? Uh, nope! I need to change the way I think about food. Just because it's sitting there, I don't need to put it in my mouth.

Here's to a better eating day tomorrow.

B

1w3d

It was circuit day today. I did not look forward to circuit day, although once I got into it, it wasn't so bad. Last week, I was not able to complete the full circuit. I did today. I did a TK R32 warm up, followed by R lead punches, pull ups, L lead punches and so on to complete about 55 minutes of a work out. As of 9:49, I've burned 2870 cals...nice!

Tomorrow is all TK. Weight this AM was 229.4. No movement. Hopefully, I am gaining muscle and losing fat. Saturday will tell the tale. Clothes are feeling looser, including underwear, so I know that all this work is paying off in some way...onwards to tomorrow. I was supposed to have my cheat meal on the weekend, but DH wasn't interested. Like he's following HIS diet plan. Anyway, I went to Buckhorn Grill in Embarcadero. It was an every so often haunt before dieting. I had a Big Buck (6 oz of tri-tip) a small bun, a mountain of tiny fried onion strings and a cookie. All after my 2 PM workout. I haven't been able to eat since. I am still full. Not digging the greasy burps either. Maybe next time I will focus less on bad fats as bad sugars.

This AM's WI was 229.6, same as last Saturday. I don't htink I'd expect a movement with no exercise. I wonder if it will go up tomorrow with the increased calories today. Not sure.

Back using the bodybugg. Since Tucker, now 14 mos, is self-weaning, my milk production is down and my calorie expenditure is going down too. To be expected. Should be interesting to see where it bottoms out at. Most exercise days, I burn between 2600-2900 cals and non-exercise days are about 2200-2400 cals. I exercise 6 days a week, so there are many of those, thankfully!

Exercise was strength day: I did assisted pull-ups, military presses with a green band and bodyweight squats. Squats didn't feel like enough of a workout, although it did get my heart rate up to nearly 125 at the peak of the pyramid. Must figure out a band way to do squats so I feel it more in my butt and quads. Also, I don't think I am doing the assisted pull-ups right because I didn't feel it in my lats. Of course, I am pretty strong in the lats. Last I was at the gym, I was at around 170 lbs on lats. Which reminds me of why the squats are doing, well, squat. I was pressing 225 lbs with my quads when last at the gym three months ago.

Wow, that was a lot!!

'til tomorrow!

Betsey

Challenge 1w0d

Today is my day off from exercise. I am up to 230 and I hate it. I've hurt my feet with plantar fascitis and sometimes every step is like walking on bruises. So, I guess I overdid it. So now I have to rethink what I want to do about exercise. I guess I can't do cardio everyday at 230, it's too hard on my body at my current weight.

I am going to make myself accountable to do an hour of cardio three times a week. I think I can manage that. Strength every other day, maybe. Not sure.

I have a day of cardio for tomorrow. Hopefully my feet will survive two cardio classes in one day. Turbo R32 and HHH out in Stockton.

Tomorrow is going to be a rush. Up early to a pancake breakfast, parade, two cardio classes and home. One hour drive each way to and from the cardio class. Busy day! And it's supposed to rain.

Not real happy with the results from NS this go around. Food tastes better, but results have not been as good this time. I have maintained since I hurt my feet. Hoping that if I take it slow on exercise that I can increase my loss. It just sucks that I was 191 before Tuck was conceived and I can't seem to get anywhere close this time out.

So frustrating!

Betsey

12/24/2007

It was strength & cardio today. Burned about 2550 cals according to my bugg. It's been tough keeping to not eating all the crap that comes through the office. I attempt the moderation theory: if I give in just a little, I won't binge and have a ton. There's not a lot of calories in a bite or two.

Today, as of noon, I've already been to the gym to do my 20 minute all body lift session. For some reason, I am not keeping records of my lifting, which will make it difficult to remember what I've done. Let's see if I can remember.

chest press=17 lb db/11 reps
shoulder lateral lift=15 lb db/9 reps
lat pull=90 lbson machine/11 reps
bicep curls=17 lb db/8 reps
tricep push=30 lb db/11 reps
quad extension=210 lbs machine/11 reps
calf raises=225 lbs machine/12 reps
lying leg curl=70 lbs machine/11 reps

I plan on doing at least 45 minutes of TK BOV4. I am finding that I have to take off at least one day a week from everything, so I try to keep it to a day that is cardio only. My muscles and bones just get too tired and sore with all the effort that it makes it difficult to get up out of bed some days. Maybe I am over training. I don't know.

Betsey

12/16/2007

Yesterday was cardio & strength. Got to do strength in the afternoon during Tuck's nap. Cardio was after everyone was in bed. It was BOV4.

Today was cardio only and I did R25. Kicked my own butt and burned about 600 cals. Very cool. Was not able to meet with my trainer this weekend. We were scheduled for yesterday, but I never heard from him to set up a time. Guess he was busy this weekend or couldn't make it out here on a weekend.

I am tired. I previewed it yesteday and it didn't look as well choreographed as what I am accustomed to, so I was prepared to not like it.

I loved it! I felt very uncoordinated because I am so muscle memory on R25 and even BOV4 (since it is so heavy in R25). It was a blast. Will have to venture out and do more new to me rounds. I felt so like I wasn't moving and trying to catch up and keep up. I was amazed when I looked at my bugg...a whopping 400 cals burned in the 45 minutes. Way cool.

Tomorrow is a photo shoot in the AM of two children in SF and meeting with my trainer. Not cool.

Will try to remember what I said.

Hmmm. Yeah, tired. That's what I am. Stayed out well after my bedtime last night working our last competitive cheer/dance photo shoot. Ugh, then of course, Tuck decided to wake for the day at 5:30. Starting to feel sickish, like some head cold is coming on. That always seems to happen to me when I am getting into the groove of working out.

So, I didn't do cardio today. So shoot me. I seem to take a day off from cardio every week and today was the day to skip it. I just never seemed to have the time or energy to muster it today. There's always tomorrow. I was able to somehow muster the energy for my strength training though I didn't go "all out" and push myself. I just didn't feel up to it.

Going to bed to finally catch some zzzz's. Well, if Tuck stays asleep tonight, maybe I will gather myself a whole paragraph of them...

Betsey

Oh, yeah, down to 227 as of this AM. Six lbs down since Thanksgiving and an increase of LBM of about 7 lbs, so I guess that means I lost about 13 lbs of fat in about 2 weeks. Another great burn day. As of 10:30, I am at 2770.

Oddly enough, I seem to be burning less calories by about 300 cals a day, no matter what. Is my body getting used to my workouts? Is something wrong with my bugg? You'd think the extra muscle would help me burn MORE cals. I did notice that my milk supply is down after multiple days of pumping over the weekends, perhaps that is the reason for the less burn. Not sure.

Doing okay with eating. Not logging though. I am eating 5 smaller meals, most are 400 cals, although sometimes only 250.

Signing off for today.

Betsey

low calorie burn today! Today, I stood all day...from 9 am through 5 and burned a little more, but not much for my achy feet. At 10:30, calorie burn is at 2260. Yesterday, I burned 3250...a thousand more...

Anyway, I did do my full 55 minutes of TK Round 25 through finesse. Tomorrow is cardio & strength. I will try to do strength before the last weekend cheer shoot. Very fun. Even though it's the one I seem to focus on the most, it's still a blast for me. The better I get at it the more fun it is becuase I spend less time scrambling to get the next move. A lot less frustrating. Though, muscles get used to the same movements, I should really work on some other rounds. I did do BOV4 and that was fun also, but it was heavy in Round 26 & 25, both of which I am fairly familiar with.

Strength training was fun today. I went through my nine exercises with my trainer and got some serious pointers. It's amazing to me how proper technique and form can make everything harder. I bet I am a bit sore tomorrow. Ah, but it's just a turbo day tomorrow. Well, it's about time for bed. All the kids are there, so I guess I should join in the sleep fest.

I've been in an amazingly munchy mood today. Not good. Perhaps it was the stress of the 2.5 hour morning commute (that is usually an hour). Was two TKs too much yesterday? Probably! Today was a cardio only day. I did about 30 minutes of TK BOV4 at work. Not sure how much I burned becaue my bodybugg has been strange today. It's been about 20% off for the past two days from the display, so I did the suggested firmware upgrade and it's been worse. I actually lost all my data from this morning and yesterday, which really sucks because I have two turbos in there. Oh, well!

Tomorrow is cardio & strength. Today is cardio day, but my walking doesn't count because it "shopping walking", which isn't cardio challenging. As of 5 PM, I burned 1987 calories, about 1000 short of my daily allotment. As of 9:30 PM, I have not done my 30 mins of cardio. Still planning on trying to get that in, or perhaps I will make today my "day off". I've been working out solidly for 4 days everyday and a break is okay.

Tomorrow is cardio & strength day again. Will try to get there early, during Tuck's first nap and while Ryan is at church with Grandma.

I made some okay choices today. Didn't eat as many meals as I am supposed to, though. I ate an awesome breakfast of a protein bar & protein shake, about 400 cals, ate out for lunch at the salad bar type place. Lot's of veggies and only tiny muffins for dessert. Muffins must have just about wrecked my sugar, though, because it was high when I was home and making me sleepy. I think it's the waiting too long between breakfast (8:30 AM) and lunch (1:30 PM), a whopping 5 hours between meals. Now, it's 9:30 PM and I have not eaten since lunch. Also, I haven't been drinking my water goals.

Ah, must post my daily affirmations here so I can look at them from anywhere...

Betsey

Thanksgiving

I am very proud of myself. I did really well on Thanksgiving...this countries biggest excuse to gorge out/pig out. I ate mostly turkey, quarter cup size of mashed potatoes and a tiny bit of gravy on it. I had a tiny sliver of pumpkin pie.

I did eat two meals prior to T-day dinner (at 1PM), but none after, so I could have done better in that respect. As for exercise, it was cardio only day on my BFFM plan and I did an hour of Turbo Kick (cardio kick box) and walked pushing a stroller for three sets of 15 minutes each, one time pushing 21 lbs of a 9 month old and twice pushing my 32 lb 3.5 year old and his 9 month old brother. That was a workout! All three walks showed up on my activities for yesterday on body bugg and Turbo clocked in at 10.5 calories a minute for burn.

Today was cardio & strength day. So, at 11, after the kids went down for their naps, I went to our local 24Fitness and did my strength training. Wow, it was packed! All kinds of people on the exercise punishment pony. All kinds of muscleheads too. I am used to the gym that is close to work and it's much smaller and easier to find everything. Our local 24 is a supersport and it's hard to find everything. I even had to ask another exerciser where the barbells were. And so many were missing and misplaced (the heavier ones were higher and nothing was in order like I am accustomed to). I have yet to do my 30 mins of cardio today.

Did I say that I lost 0.2 lbs yesterday according to my Tanita? Wahoo, weight loss on Turkey day! On the downside, I gained about 6 lbs since the last post I posted my weight being stuck at 227.2. I hit 233.6 last Saturday and am now 231.0. My usual weigh day is Saturday. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Getting ready to eat some yummy chicken, wild rice & aspargus for dinner.

Betsey

Catch Up Time #2

Thursday, November 1, 2007

Wow, has it really been since 10/28 that I blogged?
Oops, there goes my daily promise to myself. At least doing this blog does inspire and motivate me to move, which is wonderful. That's the whole point, right, to be accountable? Even though I have not been posting, I have been exercising.Tonight, I did my cardio kick box in two sets, repeating a section and moving on when I returned home. As of 10:45, I burned 3167 calories today, walked 16, 418 steps. I did not log my calories, but I know dinner was 360, b'fast was about 400 with 2, 200 calorie snacks an lunch was about 480 calories, which is about 1640 cals about. So I ate about half the calories I burned today. I know this is not the best way to eat and I should eat more, but sometimes it's so hard to get all my calories in. I am not losing weight. I weighed in this AM at 227.2, exactly where I was when I started this blog a week ago. I know I need to eat more and get strength training in.Betsey

Friday, November 2, 2007

Another day another workout, strength today
I worked out with my trainer James today. I told him it had been awhile since I'd done strength training and all the daily cardio I've been doing hasn't dropped a tenth of a pound in the last two weeks. Major bummer. I do love doing Turbo. I can feel that it tightens my muscles, but it hasn't helped me lose weight this month. You'd think with the number of calories I burn coupled with what I eat that I would be dropping the pounds, but it just ain't happenin'.Stats for today are: calories burned as of 9:30: 2741steps taken: 11, 349calories in: ??Betsey
Posted by Not Just Another Journey at 9:32 PM

2 comments:
Cornelius said...
Keep it up. I've been on the bugg for a few weeks and already credit it with getting past my biggest weightloss plateau. Also, try to systematically overestimate the calories you claim to be eating.
November 5, 2007 11:52 PM
Not Just Another Journey said...
Thanks for the advice, Cornellius! I didn't eat clean. I did actually read a lot of the Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle eBook I bought. Wow, it's an eye opener. For years, I've been shooting to weigh 145. It's based on BMI, which I know is useless. When I was on Weight Watchers, I did the math for what 26 BMI would be ad 145 was it for my height. Actually, when you set a weight goal, WW requires that the maximum be 26 BMI for women. Now that I know BMI is complete crap that tells you no more than the scale, I see the error of my thinking. I've read through chapter four of the BFFM book and it really resonates with me.So from where I am now, still sitting at 227, I was shooting for an 82 lb weight loss. Now, I can see that would be unreasonable. My current skinfold reading is 33% body fat at 227 and 5'5". Doing the math, my fat lbs are 75 (74.91) and my lean body weight is 152. My bones, water and muscle are more weight than my old goal weight. See, that IS unreasonable. So now, my goal is not based on weight or BMI, it's based on body composition. I am currently at 33% body fat. My 12-month goal is 16% body fat. Wow, that sounds really lean to me. If I feed the muscle and burn the fat (concept of the book...keep the muscle or lean body mass, and burn fat through exercise), I would be at 16% body fat at 180 lbs. Wow, that's very different from 145.So, here's the daily goals: drink half my body weight in ounces in water everyday, eat six small meals each day (b'fast, lunch & dinner a bit bigger at around 400 cals & snacks around 200, which would put me around 1800 cals). Hmm, maybe that's not enough calories though, since I burn anywhere between 2400-3000 cals a day. Will have to try that to see if I can actually lose any weight. It might be too agressive of a calorie deficit.Betsey

Friday, November 16, 2007

Sidelined...again
Put me on the DL for this week. What an undertaking that was. 300+ pages, all of them vital information, for sure. So, I figured out my calories burned, my heart rate during exercise and calories in. Calories in is set at about 2300 and since my average calorie burn over the last month was 2853, I decided 2850 has a nice round ring to it.I was measured by a different trainer today since mine was out. Wow, eithe I am up 3.5% BF or they measure very differently. Today's trainer didn't seem to pinch the calipers too tightly.I was pretty good today. I ate mostly clean at 2000 cals, did both strength training, beginner workout from BFFM and 55 minutes of cardio today. Yeah. Gearing up for the food festivities tomorrow.Tired, must.get.sleep.or.I.will.passout.Betsey

There's all of previous posts from November...

Catch Up Time

My other blogspot everydaysuccesses can't be reactivated so, I thought I'd repost my blogs here and continue on.

Friday, October 19, 2007

Wow, Day 0 on my body transformation!
I plan on using this space to document my journey to health. I need to figure out how to post pictures, well I need to take some also. No recent pics.Current stats: weight is 227 and my body fat % is 32 when it was last checked. My goal for the next 12 weeks is to bring my body fat down to 30%I have a bodybugg and regularly check my calorie burn through out the day. When I exercise, I burn about 3000 calories and when I do not, I burn about 2500. I am a nursing mom and I need to make sure I eat enough calories to produce milk for my son yet not so much that I keep weight on. I try to go to the gym 4x a week.I've been losing some here and there since I got my bodybugg, but haven't been really consistent at the gym due to illness in the family, including my own 3 week bout with a sinus infection. I hope this blog keeps me more motivated to stick to my program. I need to be better about journaling my food. I tend to eat so much cleaner when I write it all down.Tomorrow's plan is to do a JDRF walk-a-thon which is a 2 mile walk in San Francisco. The whole family is going on the walk. I am just elated that my husband a couch potato wants to do the walk. I hope it to be a fun day.
Betsey

October 20, 2007

The Walk - Day 1!
Well Geez, I feel like such a dork. I love my bodybugg and wear it ALL THE TIME. I do this big walk to cure diabetes thing and I forgot to put it back on after my shower this morning. I know I walked at least 4 miles today. We had a hard time figuring out exactly where the walk was, so we parked about half a mile away. We shared pulling the boys behind us in the wagon, which added about another 120 lbs to the whole exercise. The walk itself wasn't too long, about 45 minutes to walk, but I wouldn't call it a workout because I lost count of how many times we had to stop and go back for our 3 year old Ryan. The 2.5 mile walk was fun, so many people on the trail, it was great!DH has some pictures to upload and I will include that here once we get it on the internet.I need to make a correction: my starting weight is 227. Kind of funny, before I lost 62 lbs before I got pregnant with Tucker (8 mos), 230 was my set/plateau point and 250 was my absolute, "must go on diet" weight. Now, my comfort level has changed and I don't feel good at 227. I made it down to 191 and I want to get there and beyond.Although a specific weight is not my goal, my intention is to burn unwanted fat. My fat % is about 32 right now and my goal in the next 12 weeks is to get to 30%.More tomorrow!

Betsey

Sunday, October 21, 2007

Wow, what did I do today toward my goal...
Um...nothing?I didn't eat clean. For any meal. I ate a fried egg in bread (hubby calls it Popeye Eggs, not sure why...) with real maple syrup. No mid-morning snack. Tuna sandwich with mayo, capers and toasted onions for lunch, ohhh and a half a snickerdoodle cookie. Peanut butter honey dipped apple for an afternoon snack. Crepe with swiss cheese, deli ham and a fried egg on top at a French cafe in San Francisco for dinner. With loads of decaf coffee with sugar cubes becuase they didn't have Splenda. Ugh, I hate it that I ate that way today.Did I shred anything? No. I didn't even tear anything! Or nick anything...I did homework and drove around San Francisco all evening. Fun, but not what I'd call active. Out of my 10,000 steps per day goal, I did 5655 as of 9PM. Burned 2533 calories so far.Plan for tomorrow? Go to the gym, at least do a 20 min treadmill interval and maybe some Turbo Training. If I really feel like I have the time, maybe some Piyo (pilates and yoga). Eat better. Of course, that wouldn't take much. Also, will log my food to see what I eat against what I burn. That's why I bought the bugg, right?
Betsey

Monday, October 22, 2007

The good news & bad news
Good news first, of course...I walked 10,160 steps so far today. I ate an okay breakfast, an okay lunch as a so-so dinner. Better than yesterday. I will get in some yoga poses before bed.Bad news, I didn't get the exercise in I had planned. I was just too tired. Exhausted actually. I haven't had regular caffeine in five years and I got slipped some with yesterday's dinner. I was up til 2AM with my mind unable to quiet. Up at 5:30, as usual.Tomorrow won't be a high walk day unless I go to the gym and do my interval treadmill training. I found I like the treadmill best for my intervals. It's a tough workout when you primarily use elevation to create the interval. So far, as of 9:30 PM, my calorie burn is 2341. Not too stellar. Yesterday's was better. Let's see what tomorrow brings. It's bedtime.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Yeah!! I did it!
Even though I had another rough night with the boys deciding that 1AM was a great time to get up this morning, I forced myself to get some cardio in today. It was fun. It was definitely not slow cardio. I do Turbo Kick (actually certified to teach it) and have been trying to learn Round 25. I was able to take it all the way through the anaerobic section. Yeah!Calorie burn so far (as of 9PM) is 2602, steps are 10,189.

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Workout 2, complete
I was feeling really crappy today, so I thought that some good old fashioned sweat might help. It did. I did my turbo kick cardio again, this time with the DVD, not just my iPod. It's a fun one. I will see if I can get to the gym tomorrow for a strength workout. Things are finally slowing down at work enough to attempt it. Still need to figure out how to post a darn picture...Heading to bed after another day.

Friday, October 26, 2007

Workout 3
Today was an all around good day. Steps are largely due to the Turbo Kick during my morning workout.I did personal training today with James at 24hr for about an hour. We did about 20 minutes of agility, strength work and about 45 minutes of Turbo Kick. He kicked my butt with agility training and I kicked his butt with Turbo. It was great!!No major philosophical work today. Just waiting to go to sleep. I am wiped after a long week of poor sleeping (two children under 4 will do that to ya).

B

Saturday, October 27, 2007

Another workout today, split in two!
Today, I've been pretty good, except for a trip to Costco and little nibbles. How do you put those into your food diary? I am not sure. A bit of beef, a quarter inch square of cupcake. I know it adds up, but how to log it? Not sure.Well, because of the nibbling and a long break between lunch and dinner (lunch at 11:30 & dinner at 9 PM), I did skip two meals: my AM & PM snacks. I will get in my evening snack. So here's my stats for today.Calories burned as of 10:30 PM: 3150Calories logged for day: 1510steps taken: 15,561total physical activity time: 1hr 48 minsNutrition: protein 22%; carbs 58%; fat 20% of days caloriesTomorrow, I will be doing a few hours of walking around a festival with two small children and then working a table for my employer as a volunteer. Two hours of strolling around a festival. No time to properly exercise between running around, volunteering at the festival and finishing out my homework. I always wait until the last minute to do my homework. I don't know why I have to stress myself out like that...I am bummed because I, yet again, forgot to wear my bugg!
